I took a short break from grading when a crew decided to stop by for dinner, and I quickly whipped up leftovers, Crandall Special, and some chicken. The dinner turned into a game fest, so I was up later than usual playing cards and laughing at the Uno Dare game we played that was up in my cupboard. Yes, the China cabinet should be loaded with dishes and fancy stuff but, true, if you look close enough you will see Battleship, volleyballs, corn hold bags, and bourbon. What can I say?
I think the highlight of the night was watching everyone fall in love with my mother's horseradish sauce. I made it for Easter ham and it came out great. These kids love their spicy and the horseradish sauce definitely cleared out their sinuses. The funniest was Abonga, who ate a mouthful and pretended like there was no effect, but then suddenly his nostrils flared, he wiped sweat from his brow, and then he burst out laughing. "It tickled my brain," he said. "I feel like I have been cleaned."
And then they went for more.
I'm actually feeling thankful, because it gave me an excuse to reheat much of the ham and creamed potatoes I had left over. They devoured it all. Glamis, of course, had a great time because there were many more hands to pay attention to her. I think they tired her out, though, because she was the first to go to bed.
Big chunks graded yesterday. National stuff accomplished. A great run and a wonderful walk. Cleaned and even did laundry. I can use about 7 more days exactly like this and then I will feel like I'm on top of my game.
Much to celebrate with Akbaru's acceptance into Fairfield University - we will have to see all that is still to come. Here's to Sunday. I'm hoping for another day of checking items off my list.
