Crandall's Good Deed For the Week. Right Place at the Right Time

I was walking the dog near Walnut Beach when I heard screaming (which I first assumed was a domestic quarrel - I try not to mess with them). Yet, when I looked over my shoulder towards the screaming, I thought, "That lady is either dealing with a drunk spouse or she has an aging parent on her hand."

Aging parent.

The woman was not strong enough to hold her mother up. She fell back and pinned her daughter against the door frame and neither could move. I ran across the street to the rescue and was able to unpin the daughter and help get the 90-year old mother into the house. Apparently, the mother had a doctor's appointment and recently had a hip replacement. At this point in time, however, the knees when. She couldn't  hold herself up and fell back on her daughter who drove her home from the doctor's.

I helped guide, then carry, the lady into her house (very old woman-ish in decor and layout). The mother, who the daughter also said suffered from dementia, kept yelling, "Just leave me alone. I want to be left alone."

I carried her to a couch and got her to sit up and then she proceeded to cry. The daughter said, "I can't do this. My sister can't do this. We're trying to keep her in her own home, but the dementia and surgeries. It is too much."

She then proceeded to cry.

Aging is not fun. I was thankful to be at the right place at the right time. I almost walked by, but something made me cross the street to help out. I'm glad I did and I felt like I earned my good samaritan badge for the week. It's sad, though. I feel for the daughter and the woman who simply wanted to be left alone .

Life can be cruel.
